Everyone knows how expensive weddings can be, especially if you are planning the wedding of your dreams. When you are on a budget, it is hard to find ways to cut back and stay within the guidelines of you pocketbook, but there are ways to keep that bottom line a little leaner that it could be. There are always little obvious shortcuts that we miss because we are too close to the planning. It is like that old adage where you cannot see the tree because of the forest. When you are in the wedding planning trenches, it is so easy to become bogged down in tiny details that you miss opportunities to trim the fat without sacrificing the eloquence and beauty that you deserve. Even the smallest things like saving money by giving glass-wedding favors instead of crystal wedding favors can get in the way of saving hundreds of dollars on some other detail you have missed. Here are a few simple ways to trim a few dollars off your wedding budget and get into the groove.

Hold your wedding on a Wednesday or Thursday. The reason for this is that wedding halls, hotels, and other facilities charge more on the weekends then they do during the workweek. You could save a pretty good amount by negotiating a great weekday rate for you and your guests. Just remember that just because you have negotiated a price you have to take the rooms. That just isn't true. Keep your negotiations and your actual purchases separate so that you can negotiate with more than one location, then, when all the bids are on the table, pick the one that is most suited to your needs. Make sure you have it at a great rate but also a great location and the services that they provide. It is okay to pay a little more if it suits your needs and is still a reduced rate.

Another little tip for saving a few bucks is saving the toasts. Proper etiquette only calls for three toasts, the father of the bride, the groom, and the best man. Once those toasts are out of the way, make an announcement of move the festivities forward. You will be surprised how much time and money you can save if every long-winder Uncle, brother, or nephew misses the change to toast for the sake of hearing himself or herself speak or even honest well wishing. You can also hold the good champagne until it is time to toast or better yet, save it for cutting the cake. In the meantime, serve the less expensive wine spritzer or sparkling chilled wine.

A great DJ is better than a good wedding band any day of the week. Instead of trying to save money by hiring a less than great band, hire a great DJ instead. These professionals really know how to get a party jumping or slow it down to just the right pace. Many DJ's have started producing sets that are wedding specific and you can find them just a readily as a wedding band if you know to look for them. If not, there are plenty of clubs, probably near you, that have a DJ play at least a few nights a week if not full time. They are more than willing to talk to you about hosting your wedding and can save you hundreds of dollars.

These are just a few ideas to get your creative, money saving juices flowing. Now that you have, I'd bet you can think of many unique ways to keep that wedding under budget and still have the day of your dreams.
